Buses, trains and trams: A European success story

CHALLENGE

MHP provides PR and strategic communications support to the Arriva Group, one of the largest providers of passenger transport in Europe. Arriva has grown from a second hand motorcycle vendor to a company of 60,000 people providing bus, rail, tram and waterbus services across 14 countries for more than 2.2bn passengers. MHP is tasked with supporting Arriva’s aim in becoming Europe’s mobility partner of choice.

APPROACH

We helped Arriva craft its message of creating value for its partners, putting passengers first and making a difference to the communities it operates in. We then provided support in communicating that message to key stakeholders and media.

For Arriva’s Northern franchise win, we produced audience specific messaging as well as drafting and socialising key message documents and Q&As with Arriva spokespeople. For crisis communications, we produced a stakeholder manual and facilitated workshops with senior internal stakeholders.

OUTCOMES

For the Northern franchise win, MHP secured over 100 pieces of print and online coverage, eight TV interviews as well as a host of radio coverage.

Our 50-page crisis communications handbook is now the framework to be used across Arriva’s 14 international markets should a crisis incident occur.
