Private Equity

The alternative asset class that employs around one-fifth of the UK private sector workforce
Private equity, along with banking, has been on the sharp end of the media and other commentators' attention for too long. Despite being a growing force in the world economy either through making operational improvements, supporting growth strategies or investing at an early stage of development, private equity is still too often seen as a negative force by the media, politicians and regulators.
This has to change. We believe private equity firms can raise their game in terms of public and political engagement, and need not be afraid to trumpet the achievements of their portfolio companies. Investors in private equity should not be shy in articulating why they invest in this area. Private equity is a cornerstone investment for many long-term institutional investors such as pensions funds and insurance companies. Too often the rationale for why this asset class remains popular is over-looked.
