“We are going to do it completely differently”.
“We are going to challenge the model that other consultancies have stuck to before”.
We reminded ourselves of those two defining principles at every step as we at MHP developed our plans to open in the Brussels market.
For years, old model companies saw Brussels and London as two completely unrelated markets. Or at least you would think so from the way that so many companies set up their offices in these political capitals as rival profit centres, competing rather than collaborating. As the politics of Europe have become ever more fluid, consultancies have offered clients a service that has become ever more rigid. Clients of some old-school agencies told us that they actually dreaded trying to get their London and Brussels agency teams to work together.
So we decided that when London, Washington D.C. and Edinburgh; the three existing homes of the MHP team; are joined by our fourth office in Brussels, we would preserve the core way of working that lies at the heart of MHP. We are one company, with one P&L, with a team that works closely together across disciplines, and across geographies. It’s what allows MHP to ensure that the service we offer our clients is always perfectly matched to their need. It is what will now allow us to give our London and Edinburgh based teams unique, direct, experience in Brussels, and our new Brussels based team greater breadth and depth of experience by also working out of our offices in the UK.
With Alisdair Gray now leading MHP in our Brussels base, we have ambitious plans to grow our size and strength delivering public affairs and corporate communications to clients in the capital of Europe. Already growing, we expect the MHP team based in Brussels to be 10-strong by year end. And all four MHP offices now work closely with our newly established MHP network – leading independent consultancies across Europe and in the major markets worldwide, who have chosen to partner with MHP.
London, Edinburgh, Brussels and Washington D.C. Four cities, with four offices, all working together as one MHP.
